I have been pursuing research related to the mathematics development of students with disabilities for most of my career.  My work has included efforts to develop measures that will allow teachers to monitor the progress of secondary students in the area of mathematics.  I have also been involved in examining the mathematics performance of students with disabilities on large-scale assessments, such as the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).  As part of my responsibilities at Iowa State University, I teach a graduate course in mathematics instructional methods for secondary students with disabilities.

My current work in progress monitoring includes working with my RIPM colleagues to extend research in Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBM) in mathematics from kindergarten through grade 12.  My particular focus within the project is on studies at the middle school and high school levels. In a related project, I am developing and validating CBM measures to track secondary students' progress in algebra.
